Soctoberfest updates

Since I've finished the Widdershins (finally have a picture), I'm now in limbo about the next pair of socks I should knit. There are tons of patterns that I want to knit but I can't decide!

I've started Cookie's BFF socks in a Koigu colorway that I have but I'm not sure I like the colorway anymore. It has just about all the colors in the rainbow with more green (which i don't like) and it makes it hard to see the cables.

I have started a pair of basic socks using Opal petticoat. I've only been working on them for two days but I got a lot done during a fieldtrip in class on Monday. I'm using Bryspun (?) needles instead of my usual boyles so I'm in no danger (my TA who drives scares me sometimes).

I've learned two techniques due to Socktoberfest and in these past few days of being in between projects.

Cabling without a cable needle
Magic Loop

I'm really sad to see Soctober come to an end but I'll never stop making socks!

BTW, look at this awesome sock pattern I found on the flickr group for Soctoberfest! I want to make them but I want to do them toe up so I can use all of my Lorna's Laces (yum, who'd want to waste any of that?) when I make them. I don't know how to convert top down patterns to toe up though...any suggestions? Thanks

Hope everyone has/had a happy Halloween!!

Widdershins

For the month of October I have been working on some Sockotta Widdershins. Once again, they've lingered on the needles for about 3-4 days b/c I was afraid of doing a bind off that would be too tight. So I tried a sewn bind-off. AND IT WORKED! Yay for Elizabeth Zimmerman! It took about 30 minutes for each sock though. The socks are a little long for me so I'm going to give them to my mommy. They will be for Christmas though! I will be taking a picture sometime this weekend over at Kenny's.

I have a set of Denise Interchangables as well as a Boyle Needlemaster set both of which have been M.I.A. since the last week of August, when I moved into my new apartment. And I've been going crazy because I've been wanting to try and tackle a sweater and knit some scarves. Money was tight so I didn't want to buy new needles.

I FINALLY found them tonight!! I'm so excited. I could've sworn I had them in one of the totes in my room and I was right! I missed them before because they were buried under papers and magazines!

I must go now in preparation for Grey's Anatomy!

Socktoberfest!

Lolly has asked us some questions regarding our sock history, and I've finally found the time to answer them (I'm really just procrastinating so I don't have to write my papers or study).

When did you start making socks? What was your first pair and how have they held up over time?

I started shortly after I began knitting. I used Silver's sock tutorial and Red Heart worsted weight rainbow colored yarn. The picture is in my flicker album. Considering what they were, I havent really worn them. I don't really wear socks all that much to begin with; I'd much rather be barefoot. Plus it's been summer. I want to wear them around my apartment but the wood floors catch on the yarn. Booo!!!

What would you have done differently?

I wouldn't have done anything differently. They were my first pair and a learning experience-I wasn't ready for fingering weight yarn yet!

What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?

I have only knit with a few brands...mostly Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock. I can't help it! It's the best! I do have some Koigu in my stash though that's about to have its turn. I'm just nervous!

How do you knit/crochet your socks?

I didn't know one could crochet socks until the Summer of Socks KAL where one lady was just cranking them out! I have only knit my socks on dpns. Love it. I do want to try magic loop or two circulars.

What kind of heel do you prefer?

HEEL FLAP ALL THE WAY. I can't stand short rows, I hate all the counting. and holes (I know I should try all the different methods that have just been posted out in blogland).

How many pairs have you made?

6! I wasn't aware that I had made that many! Yay!
